What: Fundamentals of Pre-Construction and Project Management is a deep dive into the fundamentals of good pre-construction and project management practice. This 7-session online course will cover essential tasks during pre-construction, estimating, scheduling, and project management tasks during the construction process. The course includes hands-on exercises, tools, and templates to support emerging project managers and estimators.

Who: This course is designed for emerging project managers and estimators who are new to their role or are looking to improve their internal systems.

Why: Successful residential construction projects require good estimating and project management skills. Many people who become project managers and estimators have not been taught these business skills. Developing these skills, along with well-defined roles and responsibilities, can create a more resilient construction company.

  • Session 2: Estimating Basics and Cost Codes

  • Session 3: Cost Interventions and Presenting Estimates to a Client

  • Session 4: Contracts, Kickoffs & Pre-Mortems

  • Session 5: Scheduling

  • Session 6: How to Run a Project: Job Cost Accounting, Change Orders, PM Responsibilities

  • Session 7: Keeping Your Projects on Track Through Close Out

Format

Online via Zoom. Sessions are recorded and available for review, but attending all sessions in real time is strongly encouraged.

Tia has 30 years of construction experience, with over 20 years as supervisor, self-employed general contractor, and project manager. She is a Passive House U.S. Certified Builder and is a Certified Integrative Life Coach through Integrative Wellness Academy.
