Introduction to Estimating (4 weeks)

What: Introduction to Estimating is a comprehensive introduction to the methodology and techniques of estimating for residential construction. In this 4-session online course participants will learn how to organize their estimating process with CSI divisions and code costs; generate an initial ballpark / Schematic Design (SD) budget range; use HELM’s own comprehensive estimating tool; and create a Design Development (DD) and/or Construction Drawing (CD) estimate. Sample estimating documents and deliverables that are the standard in this industry will be shared.

Who: This course is designed for people working in the residential construction industry who currently do or would like to start doing project estimating.

Why: Estimating is a critical skill for a construction or design-build company. Good estimates and good estimating documentation will allow a company to become more resilient, set up for more accurate cost accounting, and prevent unpleasant surprises for the client.
